I have been providing personal training throughout my career, instructing people suffering from both physical and mental ill health. Apart from the many physiological benefits, exercise has a significantly positive effect on psychological problems, particularly depression. I usually train people in their own home and locality, as this gives me the opportunity to educate them about how they can best utilise their own environment for training purposes. I believe that promoting independence
is important and take great pleasure in seeing clients increase their
understanding and self confidence so that they are happy to continue their
healthy lifestyle unsupported. |

| When I first
met John I had little motivation to undertake any fitness training, a lack
of body confidence and little idea about what I could achieve physically;
yet, I wanted to improve in all these aspects. Previously, I had been a
regular attendee at a local gym, but found the environment quite intimidating
at times and, over the course of a year, my enthusiasm and attendance dramatically
tailed off. Not surprisingly, I let my gym membership lapse. Since then
and, over the last eighteen months, John and I have been working together
to improve my level of physical fitness and motivation for exercise. Much
to my initial amazement (thinking that I would not be able to sustain my
motivation for exercising in between our training sessions), it didn’t
take too long before I could see the benefits of working with John on a
one to one basis. My body shape and stamina began to improve, even though
I didn’t always exercise on a regular basis in between the training
sessions with John. At the beginning, John was particularly sensitive and
understanding of my lack of motivation and busy lifestyle that had prevented
me from exercising on a regular basis. Together, we set realistic fitness
targets that fitted in with other commitments in my personal and work life.
When I look back on my early training sessions I’m amazed at the progress
I have made: the thought of running a few miles, going for a long cycle
ride or exercising with heavy weights is no longer daunting since I am capable
of doing all these things. I am now much more motivated to sustain my current
level of fitness. With great sensitivity, excellent tuition and an unflagging
enthusiasm, John has pushed me a lot harder than I could have managed myself
or by attending a gym. I cannot recommend John highly enough. John’s
skill and expertise informs a tailor made approach to personal fitness that
takes into account an individual’s level of fitness and personality,
irrespective of age or capability. John has made a big difference to my
